From Depth to Light: Museum of Fishing and Climate
Project type
Industrial Achitecture
Date
July 2025
Location
Penzance
This project proposes a sustainable fishing heritage museum in Penzance that aims to reconnect younger generations with the fishing industry while raising awareness about the urgent impacts of climate change and global warming on marine ecosystems. Designed as a sensory and educational journey, the building uses a vertical spatial narrative, with a blue gradient transitioning from deep to light ; to represent the movement from ocean degradation to environmental awareness and hope.
Recycled shipping containers and CLT form the structural system, reflecting a low-carbon, adaptable approach. Internally, the architecture invites engagement through hands-on workshops, climate-focused storytelling, and moments of reflection. By combining traditional knowledge with contemporary environmental issues, the project positions the built environment as a tool for both cultural preservation and ecological education.
Ultimately, the museum becomes a space where young people can rediscover the value of local industry, understand their role in shaping a more sustainable future, and build a meaningful connection with the sea.
